Privacy Policy

How America Moves (“we,” “us”) operates the website at howamericamoves.com. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as possible. The site shows public IRS migration data and does not require an account.

What we collect

Newsletter email. If you subscribe, we store the email address you provide and the page you submitted it from, so we can send the newsletter and understand which content drives sign-ups. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by contacting us.

Analytics and usage. We use Google Analytics to measure traffic in aggregate so we can see how the site is used and improve it. It loads only when the Analytics category is enabled for you (see Cookies below). We do not use session recording.

Server and security data. Like most websites, our hosting provider processes standard request information (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) to serve the site and keep it secure. This happens for every visitor and is not used to identify you.

Cookies

We group cookies into categories you control. Strictly necessary cookies are always on; everything else loads only when you enable its category. Use Cookie preferences in the footer to review or change your choices at any time.

Your choices are stored in a first-party cookie, ham_consent, which records the categories you allowed, the policy version, the date, your region, and a random non-identifying id. A second cookie, ham_geo, holds a coarse region label (EU, UK, California, or other) so we can show the right options; it is not precise location. Withdrawing the Analytics category stops Google Analytics on your next page view.

Service providers

We share data only with providers that help us run the site, and only as needed for that purpose:

• Google Analytics (traffic measurement) — see Google’s privacy policy.
• Mailgun (sending the newsletter and managing the list).
• Our database and hosting providers (storing data and serving the site).

We do not sell your personal information.

Your choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of certain processing. For us that means your newsletter email and your cookie preferences. To make a request, email us at privacy@howamericamoves.com. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, and you can decline or withdraw cookie consent at any time.

Regional privacy rights

EU, EEA, and UK (GDPR). We ask for your consent before any non-essential cookies load. Nothing in the Analytics or Marketing categories runs until you opt in, and you can withdraw at any time from Cookie preferences.

California (CCPA/CPRA). California residents can opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information using Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information in the footer, or by turning categories off in Cookie preferences. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out and apply it automatically. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information beyond what is permitted without a right to limit, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. Retention

We keep your newsletter email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Analytics data is retained according to the providers’ settings and is used in aggregate.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the effective date above. Material changes will be made clear on this page.
